about
How long have I been writing?
I've been writing professionally for over ten years.
But it really started when I was three, scribbling one-eyed smiley faces all over the storage boxes in the basement. By the time I could write my name (jANice--a renegade mishmash of capital and lowercase), it ended up everywhere, even on the walls...to the dismay of my parents.
Why B2B (Business-to-Business)?
Starting my own business in 2007 meant picking a niche. Although B2C (business-to-consumer) advertising gets all the Clios and Lions, my heart was really in B2B. I like that B2B products and services help solve real problems. They help other businesses improve. And the trickle-down effect of that improvement means we all benefits, even end-consumers. Fundamentally, B2B products must matter and make a difference to be viable in the marketplace. Those are the products and services I want to help succeed.
What's my professional background?
I began my career in publishing, drumming up media attention for cutting-edge tech books. I noticed my favorite parts of a job required writing. I liked thinking about who I was writing for and what they cared about, then showing how the book was meant especially for them.
When my career transitioned to advertising, I realized I had a lot to learn. I was fortunate to work with a supportive creative team who gave me the time to develop my craft. I read voraciously about copywriting and marketing, spending my lunch pouring over Ogilvy on Advertising and Confessions of a Advertising Man. I borrowed colleagues' copies of Lovemarks and Ries & Trout's Positioning. Eventually I was writing for recognized brands, including one of the biggest CPG companies in the world. I could walk in a supermarket, drug store or restaurant and see something I had written. I had become a capital "C" Copywriter.
What can you expect when working with me?
When you approach me with a potential project, I'll schedule a call to discuss it with you. Understanding a project's scope, objectives and timeline (and, if our relationship is new, your market and competitive landscape) means I can quickly draft up and send a project outline and cost estimate. If everything looks kosher to you, send me a signed copy of the project agreement and 50% of the total project cost, and we're on our way to creating beautiful marketing content together.
According to our timeline, you'll get a first draft of the content with enough time for us to talk through any revisions so that--voila!--you'll receive sharp, sparkling final content by deadline. At that point, the remaining 50% of the project cost is due, and I'll add your business to my brainstorming board (via purple post-it) to keep me thinking about fresh ways we can use content to meet your goals.
